Our office is open and offering our full range of dental services. We had not had a single COVID case in our office. We remain at the highest level of public health precautions.
Our goal is to help you get the dental treatment you need while minimizing any emotional trauma. Sedation dentistry is commonly used during such routine procedures as teeth cleaning and checkups. By using special dentist-supplied sedatives, anxious patients can get the necessary dental treatment they require. When taken, these sedatives don’t put you to sleep but eliminate your anxiety – so you only have a comfortable and relaxing experience while at the dentist.
1) Do you suffer from a high amount of anxiety or stress when going to the dentist?
2) Does this anxiety/stress cause you to avoid seeing your dentist altogether?
If this sounds like you, then you may be a candidate for sedation dentistry. We have been treating people, like you, who have an extreme dental fear and experience a high level of anxiety – no matter what the reason – when visiting their dentist since the beginning.
While under sedation, you will be in a deeply relaxed state and will be responsive when spoken to. Your vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure while your dentist completes his work. At the end of the treatment, you’ll have little or no memory of what was accomplished.
Sedation dentistry is safe, easy and effective! And with sedation dentistry, we can perform any dental procedure that you need! The whole goal of sedation dentistry is to help you achieve your goal of complete dental health.
The most popular types of dental sedatives are nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. Different levels of sedation can be utilized depending on an individual’s need. Before administering any type of sedative, the dentist must fully analyze the medical history of the patient, taking note of any current medications and medical conditions.
Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is used as a mild sedative. It is delivered through a nose hood and is administered throughout the entire procedure. Nitrous oxide elevates the general mood and can evoke a general sense of well-being. Most importantly, it relieves anxiety and reduces pain during the procedure. In addition, some tingling and numbness may be felt. Nitrous oxide has been safely used in dentistry for many years and can be safely used for patients of all ages.
A prescribed oral medication (tablet) is provided in the dental office prior to dental treatment in order to induce a moderate state of sedation. Though oral sedatives do not cause you to sleep, it will dull the senses. This means that most patients cannot remember the sights, sounds or smells associated with the procedure. Usually, a dose of medication is taken at the start of the appointment and then topped up during the procedure as required.
